A project for holistic intervention for differently abled children
Dheemahi began with Kamakshi Aka, whose own experience as the mother of a child with a disability inspired her to find a better way forward. Her personal journey developed into a vision to create a supportive environment where children with disabilities could learn essential life skills, build confidence and develop greater independence.
Today, Dheemahi supports approximately 63 children, providing life-skills development tailored to their individual needs and abilities

Supporting Children and Their Mothers
Dheemahi recognises that supporting a child also means supporting the family.
Mothers are encouraged to participate and learn techniques and skills that can help them better support their child at home. They can also develop practical skills that may provide opportunities to generate an income.
Importantly, the centre also provides mothers with valuable respite from their continuous caring responsibilities, giving them time to rest, recharge and focus on their own wellbeing.
Sewa UK‘s Support
Sewa UK funded the construction of the Dheemahi Centre in Madurai, helping Kamakshi Aka and the local team turn their vision into a dedicated facility for children and their families.
The centre was completed and opened in 2025. What began with one mother’s determination to find a better future for her own child has grown into a place of support, learning and hope for many families.
For the actual webpage, I’d make the 63 children a large visual number rather than burying it in the text. I’d also use the videos prominently: one near Kamakshi Aka’s story and another alongside the Supporting Children and Their Mothers section.
That will let the people involved tell much of the story themselves while keeping the written page clean.
