A 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria has killed over 20,000 people and devastated many towns and villages, leaving communities in dire need of immediate support. News reports indicate that the earthquake has caused widespread damage, destroyed buildings, roads, and homes, and forced people to stay outside in the bitter cold.

In the Turkish provinces of Adiyaman, Antep, Hatay, and Malatya, and the Turkish cities of Izmir and Seferihisar, bridges and roads have collapsed, damaging the transport infrastructure. In Syria's northwest region, the towns of Jandaris and Afrin in Aleppo province have seen severe damage. Hospitals full of the dead and wounded, and ambulance sirens echoing through these towns give a glimpse of the heart-rending tragedy that Syria and Turkey are confronting.

In the face of this tragedy, Sewa International has helped the people who have been affected and calls for unified action to support the people and help them rebuild their lives. With your help and support, Sewa can make a real impact, as it has done so in response to many other disasters worldwide.

Sewa UK worked Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Manchester with Mr Seyfi Onur Sayin to extend our solidarity and support following the earthquake. We want to thank the Consul General for their tremendous support to Sewa UK in making sure we were able send donated goods via Turkish Airline.

Sewa UK also supported the victims of the Turkey earthquake with children's sleeping bags, quilts along with hats, gloves and soap.

Kind donations from Lalit Kapur, who is leading on this and Mr A Makim who helped deliver the goods to the Turkish airline warehouse at Manchester airport.
