28th January 2017, the inauguration of the new building for “Sanvedana Cerebral Palsy centre” took place in the presence of the following dignitaries:
- Gunvantsingh Kothari – Leading social worker
- Gangadharrao Pawar – Advocate
- Veljibhai Rabadiya – Executive Member Sewa UK
- Ravindra Satalkar – Executive member & trustee Sanvedana
The function started with the welcome and felicitation of all dignitaries, followed by the inauguration of the new building
Suresh Patil (secretary of Sanvedana) spoke about the progress of the project and its current status. He briefed the audience about the new facility which was more spacious and provided much needed space for the children and to accommodate more children with disabilities. The new centre consists:
- 10 classrooms (1 class for each 8 students)
- specially designed washrooms & bathrooms between two classrooms,
- a spacious dining hall & kitchen,
- swimming pool,
- function hall with a capacity to accommodate 500 people,
- open space for other activities.
All facilities are provided in an area that of 1 acre. Special emphasis is given on having ramps & railings at all places for ease in moving around the centre by the children and parents. The new building has a modern infrastructure & equipment for the provision of various therapies, medical treatment & vocational training.
Advocate Gangadharrao Pawar said in his speech that
“Service to man is service to God” and this is the moto of Sanvedana.
The chief guest Mr Gunvant Singh addressed the audience and spoke about the various difficulties faced by persons with multiple disabilities and the need for societal help.
Veljibhai Rabadiya of sewa UK gave a speech in which he said –
“education is the fundamental aspect of life and us necessary for societal change”.
A Souvenir was also released which showcased the journey of Sanvedana, its ethos, achievements, affiliations and the many recognitions in the field of persons with multiple disabilities achieved over the years.
The function was graced by many dignitaries, people with disabilities, the children attending the centre at present, their parents, prospective students, various specialists from the field of medicine, special educators, social reformers from abroad and from all parts of India.
The function was not just an inauguration of a new building but it was an inauguration and churning of new thoughts for a societal change.
